INSPECT
Why?

INSPECT® and WHAT® aim to:

  • Give educators access to test items based on California content standards.
  • Help educators assess which students are having difficulty mastering a particular standard and why.
  • Enable data-driven decisions to improve classroom instruction.
What?

INSPECT® (Identifying Needs: Standards Proficiency Exams for California Teachers) is a one-of-a-kind test bank composed of items written specifically to the California content standards. Paired with our WHAT® reporting (Why and How Analysis for Teaching), educators are armed with a clear, data-driven understanding of why students may not be mastering a particular standard.

The over 29,000 items in the INSPECT® item bank are written to specifically address California content standards. Each item utilizes distractors (wrong answers) that expose the most likely cognitive disconnect. This allows our WHAT® reports to analyze and provide rationale for each incorrect answer and identify where students are having trouble.

Items are available in the following grades/content areas:

•   English Language Arts grades K-12

•   Mathematics grades K-7

•   Algebra I

•   Geometry

•   Algebra II

•   History Social Science (selected grades)

•   Science (selected grades and subject areas)

How?

Each item in INSPECT® is written by a professional, statewide team of item writers focused on quality, accuracy, and alignment to the California content standards. WHAT® reports include a clear rational for why a student might choose each incorrect answer.

  • Create standards-based INSPECT® assessment through OARS or EADMS or choose one of our test library tests.
  • Administer the assessment via paper-pencil or online. For paper-pencil, scan the test sheets using plain-paper scanning.
  • Instantly access By-Standard and Item-Detail reports.
  • Use data in collaboration meetings to determine an appropriate instructional response.

Paired with our WHAT® reporting, our INSPECT® item bank helps assess standards mastery and determine pre-teaching, re-teaching, and intervention strategies.
